'I saw creature too'

The sighting of a strange creature on the Falmouth coastline has brought back memories for one local resident.

Author Sheila Bird, who has written books on mysterious Cornish tales, saw some sort of big cat at Swanpool lake back in 2006.

She has already spoken to Sam Bradbury, the 23-year-old who believes he saw something odd along the path between Swanpool and Gyllygvase recently, as reported in last week's West Briton.

Mrs Bird said the description and drawing, showing a large bulbous body and little neck, was similar to that of the animal she saw.

She said: "The large cat-like creature was sitting on a branch about eight to ten feet above water level, cradled in the young shoots.

"The cat and I observed each other for about 50 minutes. It maintained the same position during that time.

"It had long black fur with a slight brownish tinge, very short, thick-set neck and a bulbous body, like an enormous koala bear and a long bushy tail."
