'Giant' blue tit dwarfs buildings in freak webcam photo

A blue tit appears to dwarf buildings, cars and people as it rampages down a city street but the strange photograph is the effect of the bird getting too close to a webcam.

The bird flew directly at the camera in the town of Szentgotthard, in Hungary, and was captured so close to the lens that it seemed to be bigger than the houses, thanks to a trick of perspective.

The giant bird is the latest in a line of webcam images to recall the special effects of '60s and '70s Hollywood films.

In December 2007, a giant spider apparently threatened the space shuttle Atlantis as it was preparing to take off.

The creature walked onto a camera filming the launch and, for 26 seconds, it appeared to be ready to halt the blast off with its giant jaws.

The launch was delayed but it was not thanks to the spider. Faulty fuel tank sensors forced controllers to call off the mission until the following year.

  1. Hi, looking at the photo I'd say that the bird is more likely to be a Great tit not a Blue.

  2. That's what I thought. However, I was copying the article exactly as it appeared in the original source.
