A genetically engineered mosquito that vaccinates as it bites has been developed by Japanese scientists. A protein in its saliva protects against potentially fatal Leishmania, which is spread by sand flies. Although there is no known vaccine for malaria, which kills around 2million people a year, it is hoped it can eventually applied to that too.
