POSTED: 10:30 am EDT May 3, 2011

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. -- A bear sighting caused a partial lockdown at three schools on Tuesday morning.

Greenville County School officials said Thomas E. Kerns Elementary, Southside High Academy, and M. T. Anderson Support Center were on lockdown Tuesday morning due to a black bear sighted in the area.

A Department of Natural Resources said bear sighting are not uncommon during the springtime and they usually get about 100 calls for bear sightings during the spring season.

DNR said the bear has left the area near the schools. DNR officers have set a trap to try and catch the bear.
