Dragon cruelty is among more than 100 RSPCA convictions

More than 100 people in the East Midlands were successfully prosecuted for animal cruelty in 2011, according to figures from the RSPCA.
The charity says the number of people being convicted for animal cruelty is rising across England and Wales.
Cruelty cases in the East Midlands have included two bearded dragons who were put inside handbags in a loft and left to die.
A border collie was also stabbed 13 times in a street.
Bonnie survived after being treated at Woodside Animal Centre, the Leicestershire branch of the RSPCA.
Lisa Smith, manager at the centre, said: "She is such a wonderful dog, it was heartbreaking to think she had been treated in such a cruel way."
The RSPCA was unable to trace the person responsible for stabbing Bonnie and the case was closed.
