Montana Landowners May Soon Shoot, Trap More Wolves (Op-Ed)

Zack Strong, Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) | January 17, 2014 07:41pm ET

Last spring, a group of us watched this wolf unsuccessfully stalk a bison calf in Yellowstone National Park's Lamar Valley. Under Montana's new rules, even wolves that spend most of their lives in the park could be shot and trapped on private land any time of year, without a permit.

Last month, more than a million Americans registered their opposition to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's (FWS) proposed plan to remove Endangered Species Act protections from gray wolves in most of the lower-48 United States. This was the largest number of comments ever submitted on a federal action involving endangered species.
