Global leaders unite to fight wildlife crime

February 2014:

Governments from all around the world came together at the Illegal Wildlife Trade Conference in London (February 12-13), hosted by the UK Government, to try and end the illegal trade in wildlife.

The two-day conference resulted in heads of state, ministers and high level representatives of 46 countries and 11 UN organisations signing a declaration vowing to take on and beat the orchestrators of wildlife crime.

Measures agreed included eradicating illegal wildlife products going to market, agreeing to strengthen law enforcement efforts and ensure that effective legal frameworks and deterrents are in place, and the need to promote sustainable livelihoods for local communities.
