Two bee swarms hit Newtown in one day

A Powys councillor has told how she photographed two swarms of bees in Newtown on the same day.

Councillor Joy Jones was inspecting town centre roadworks when she spotted a swarm crawling down a yellow barrier.

A few hours later she pictured a second swarm on a bollard nearby.

She said it was an "amazing sight" which attracted a "flock" of onlookers. Both swarms were collected by local bee-keeper Graham Winchester who took them home.

The councillor, who represents Newtown East, said the swarms were spotted in the Broad Street and Severn Square areas.

"It was market day in the town centre when I saw the first swarm, and there were lots of people around, but thankfully I don't know of anybody getting hurt.
