Ahmad Lai is reading a newspaper which carries a recent story on a ten-foot long crocodile killed by the villagers of Kampung Raan,Bakam.
MIRI: The local folks have expressed concern on the crocodile population in Sibuti constituency which of late has seemed to be on the increase.
Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang shared the same worries as the depletion of food source in the river could have turned these reptiles against humans for food.
“The people, particularly those living along the banks and nearby the river, have been dealing with the prolonged issue of crocodiles in the state.
“We (Ahmad and Bekenu assemblywoman Rosey Yunus) have highlighted this matter to the wildlife authority frequently but serious action has yet to be taken to address the issue effectively,” he told The Borneo Post recently.
Ahmad Lai said most of the rivers leading to human habitation in Sibuti constituency such as Sungai Sibuti, Sungai Niah and Sungai Bakam have been infested by these ferocious reptiles.
He suggested the relevant authority issue a licence for the local folks to catch those crocodiles that could endanger life, and that the crocodiles snared would be relocated to a crocodile farm.
Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat reminded those living along the river to be on alert while carrying activities such as fishing.
He also advised them not to swim in the rivers where the reptiles were spotted.

He hoped the local authority will take further action to solve the problem immediately.
