A wildlife warden was astounded after he spotted a school of around fifty sharks swimming just yards from the English coast.

They were identified as a type of smooth-hound shark, which can grow up to five feet long.

RSPB warden Peter Hughes captured the remarkable footage of the sharks' fins cutting through the waters of the Medmerry reserve, near Chichester, West Sussex on Wednesday morning.

He said: "It was astonishing - there were just these huge fish everywhere in knee-deep water."

Thankfully, there's nothing scary about these five-foot long sharks - because they're toothless. They are known to feed largely on crabs and other invertebrates.

Peter said: "We knew in time that Medmerry was going to be a great place for wildlife, but I don't think anyone expected this.
