Nine elephants die in three poaching attacks

Nine elephants, including a two-month-old calf have lost their lives as a result of three separate poaching incidents, African Parks have reported.

Two adult females were killed in Zakouma National Park in Chad. One of these had two calves, the younger of which also died due to the trauma of seeing its mother butchered making the total three. This incident sadly has ended Zakouma’s four year record of no poaching inside the park.

Five more were killed in Garamba National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and another in Liwonde National Park in Malawi.

“While it pains me to be the bearer of poaching news, I am confident that our follow-up operations and rewards will yield some results, “said Peter Fearnhead, CEO African Parks.
