A male jaguar was borrowed from a zoo in Karala, India by a Delhi zoo around a year ago to mate with the Delhi zoo’s female jaguar, but zookeepers are sending him back because he is “too fat to breed,” BBC reports.
Salman, a 12-year-old jaguar, refuses to do anything but eat and lie around—his keepers say that he “reache[s] out for [his] meals more keenly than for Kalpana”, the female jaguar he’s supposed to be breeding with.

"The female is seen trying to entice him but he lies in a corner and refuses to respond," zoo curator Riaz Khan told the Indian Express. “He is too fat to breed.”

In order to try and get Salman’s libido and activity level up, zookeepers have tried putting him on a diet and releasing him into a larger enclosure. Unfortunately, he continues to just hang around and get even fatter. Now that they’ve tried everything, the zookeepers are giving up.

“Now we know for sure nothing is going to happen. So it is best that we send him back home. He was brought for a purpose and if he is not fulfilling that purpose then what is the point in keeping him here?” Khan said.
