Baboon adopts stray kitten as its pet in Israeli zoo

After adopting the animal some weeks ago, the baboon has started calling for the kitten when it wanders to another area of the cage.

When the kitten returns, the baboon strokes and cares for it, checking its fur for fleas as it would with its own babies.

The manager of the zoo says that the kitten has refused to leave the cage, according to a local news website.

But she also told the channel that the kitten and the baboon do not always get on, and that sometimes the latter steals his new friend's food.

She added that if it continues, the pair will have to be separated.

The video has received media attention worldwide and over 20,000 views on YouTube.
Comments on the footage are varied, with a smattering of feline and monkey related puns, speculation on the baboon's ulterior motives and obscure comparisons to the Israel/ Palestine conflict.
