More than 11,000 crocodiles and lions doomed to starvation as workers refuse to feed them

THOUSANDS of crocodiles have stopped being fed on a farm with dozens already having succumbed to starvation - and it is only a matter of time before the death toll rises.

The hungry crocodiles are trapped on a Honduran farm with no meals after workers refused to feed them until they are paid.

The millionaire Rosenthal family own the Cocodrilos Continental, which takes nearly £700,000 a year to run.

However, after a criminal investigation into their businesses, the US government froze their business assets.

The workers have refused to feed the animals since mid-October

The elite family were accussed of money laundering and drug trafficking and were hit with US sanctions last month by the Treasury Department.

As a result, the family's accounts used to pay employees and buy animal feed were blocked.

Workers at the farm, which is used to export crocodile meat and skin to the US, have since threatened to quit.

But, the animal workers admitted that if they leave, locals will rush in and eat the animals.

Workers fear the crocodiles could soon turn cannibal

The workers have refused to feed the animals since mid-October, when the sanctions began to hit.

An on-site medical center that was caring for 70 unwell crocodiles has shut down, and at least seven severely thin lions have been spotted in cages.
