Virgin America drops Seaworld from reward scheme

US airline Virgin America has dropped SeaWorld from its customer reward scheme. The scheme allowed its customers to earn points toward travel when they spend money at SeaWorld parks.

The airline, which was founded by Richard Branson and is still part owned by him, is the latest in a line of big company names, including Southwest Airlines and student travel firm, STA, to cut ties with SeaWorld following global public backlash against keeping whales, in particular orcas, and dolphins in captivity.

However Virgin Holidays have announced in a statement they will continue to work with aquariums, such as SeaWorld, providing they don’t take whales and dolphins from the ocean. This announcement follows the company’s review of its partnership with marine parks that hold captive whales and dolphins.
