Tortoises and turtles seized en route to Bangkok
April 2012. Customs officials seized 415 turtles at Dhaka Airport in Bangladesh and arrested two Indian men.
The Thailand-bound smugglers were arrested with 450 turtles and tortoises in two suitcases after a tip off from the Forest Department.
The seizure contained 300 rare starred tortoises, 90 three-keeled tortoises and 25 Indian roofed turtles according to Dr SMA Rashid of Centre for Advanced Research in Natural Resources & Management (CARINAM).
