Mystery over walrus found in coffin at St Pancras


Of all the secrets buried beneath the streets of London perhaps the most inexplicable is the walrus found in a coffin at St Pancras Station.

Archaeologists who discovered the bones of the four-metre-long Pacific walrus admit that they have been stumped as to why anyone would inter a large aquatic mammal in a human burial ground, although they suspect that it may be the antics of 19th century medical students.
