Recycling machine feeds stray dogs

A Turkish company has invented a vending machine that encourages animal lovers to recycle by feeding stray dogs.

Every time a can or bottle is recycled, some food appears in a dispenser at the right height for stray dogs in Istanbul.

The vending machine, called Pugedon, works because the profit from the recycled bottles covers the cost of the food that the machine dispenses.

Turkish industrial company YCN Yucesan group created the innovative vending machine because it wanted to boost recycling and help Istanbul's huge number of stray dogs.

A company spokesman said: "The solar powered vending machine operates by the insertion of cans and plastic bottles to be recycled and in return provides food and water in its basins for strays, pets and wildlife."
