Mystery surrounds a creature spotted off the Devon coast which the photographer claims was 'a huge shark.'

Tristan Severn-Jones noticed a fin in the water just off Bovisand Beach, near Plymouth on Friday morning.

Severn-Jones, who is a caretaker at Fort Bovisand, said he and his colleagues were left "in disbelief."

“It was sheer luck that I got a picture,” he said. “I was standing there with the guys who own the fort, and it just appeared in front of us.

Scientists puzzled by odd creature found on South African beach

Leandra Visser posted the above photo on Facebook during her holiday at De Kelder near Cape Town, South Africa. Her caption read, “Can someone please tell me what the hell this is? We picked it up on the beach at De Kelder. It’s the real thing!!”

The weird looking creature is fish-like but with huge teeth and its head appears far too big for its tiny body.

According to the Afrikaans daily Die Burger, Visser denies that the image is a joke and the newspaper took it on themselves to send the photo to the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB) in Grahamstown for verification.

The paper quotes Alan Whitfield, chief SAIAB scientist as saying that just because the creature was found on a beach, does not necessarily mean it is a fish. Whitfield drew attention to the fact that the creature in the image has no fins.

According to the experts, theories vary. Some speculate that the creature could be some kind of mutated species. Others say that as the head and jaws are so out of proportion with the creature's body, it could be made up of several different creatures. The example they gave was a puffer fish that had eaten a mussel (as it looks like a mussel shell in Visser's hand in the photo).

A mysterious beast that has been attacking cattle has been killed on a farm in Belarus, baffling people living nearby and the local vet with its bizarre appearance.

This freakish monstrosity, which some cynics might say looks a lot like a normal woodland animal, had been attacking cows and calves by savagely biting their feet, drawing parallels to the Chupacabra of Latin American legend.

The vet is at a loss as to what the creature is, claiming two similar creatures have been spotted in the region, but they both managed to evade their pursuers by melting into the forests like supernatural beings. Or small woodland animals, which the body closely resembles.

The region's hunters are also at a loss. Some of them believe it is a mutant amalgam of a number of species because it resembles a hyena, has the features of a fox, a raccoon and a dog, reports English Russia.

The vet described it as a 'sensation' and vowed to burn the corpse of the killed animal. Presumably in case it comes back to life.
