PUNE: A 20-year-old white male tiger Super' died at the Rajiv Gandhi zoological park, Katraj, early on Tuesday morning.
Super, who was born on May 6, 1989, at the Nandankanan zoological park in Orissa, was brought to the Peshwe park zoo in November 1990, and later shifted to the Katraj park.
According to a statement released by the Pune Municipal Corporation, the tiger was in its last stages. "The average life span of tigers is between 18 and 20 years. Super was in the last stage of life. It had stopped consuming food since August 12, 2009, due to which its health had deteriorated and had become passive".
In 1992, the tiger underwent a root canal operation and in 2008, one of its teeth was removed due to infection. "Since the last few days, the tiger was being treated, but was not responding to the treatment".
