Eddie the arthritic otter shoots hoops

AN AGEING otter has stunned visitors to a US zoo by shooting hoops in a bid to help his arthritic elbows.

The cute little mammal, named Eddie, is clearly no basket-case as he scores point after point in his special training pool.

Eddie, 15, was discovered to be suffering from arthritis during an X-ray by Oregon Zoo vets.

And in a bid to improve his joint function the vets came up with the idea to turn Eddie into a star attraction.

Zoo leader Jenny DeGroot said: "There aren't many natural opportunities for Eddie to work those arthritic elbow joints because sea otters don't use their front limbs to swim - they swim by moving their back legs and flippers.

"Sea otters have incredible dexterity, so it makes sense Eddie would have this hidden talent. They're famous for using rocks as tools to crack open clams."
