'Ugliest woman ever' buried

Some people will go to any lengths to marry into money.

And in the freak shows of the Victorian era, the moniker “ugliest woman in the world” was a valuable asset.
Which might help explain why Theodore Lent wed Julia Pastrana, who suffered from hypertrichosis and gingival hyperplasia, leading to her developing thick facial hair and a heavy set jaw.

After spending most of her life on show, she and her son were embalmed by her husband and continued to be exhibited, most recently at the University of Oslo.

Finally, on the year which would have been her 179th birthday, Pastrana has been buried in her home state of Sinaloa, Mexico, according to Reuters.
