Researchers Studied Invasion of Italian Lizard in LA – via Herp Digest

French Tribune, by Pierrot Durand , 11/26/2013

The new report states that scientists are finding out the reason for the invasion of Italian wall lizard in Los Angeles about 20 years ago. It has been reported that a person had bought a bright green lizard, when he was returning from his trip to Sicily.

Greg Pauly, curator of herpetology at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, has been in his research from past many years. He has been collecting the species of lizards up to dozen of foreign invaders every month.

He has been on his mission to find out the nature of these lizards. He said that he divides his collection of lizards in smaller sections to check whether they steal their food from the native lizards or they kill them for their food.

"Since I started studying this population, I've seen literally a thousand wall lizards in this area and just two native lizards. The takeover feels pretty complete", said Pauly.

He said that his aim is to check the nature of these lizards, but wants to prevent the native species from being wiped out. He said that he tries his best in managing the number of reptiles and amphibians of museums, which are
184,000 in number.
