If you’ve ever wondered what a goat/sheep lovechild would look like, today is your lucky day

By Will LernerApril 4, 2014 2:34 PM

Today we take you to the fair nation of Ireland, where a farmer has a curious new addition to his farm – a geep. Geeps are the offspring of goats and sheep, and though the term is usually attributed to goat-sheep hybrids that have been artificially created, the term is also often applied to the naturally born ones as well. Paddy Murphy of Kildare told the Irish Farmers Journal all about the little fella.

A few months ago, Mr. Murphy had noticed from afar what he thought appeared to be a goat…being amorous…with his sheep. He told Irish Farmers Journal, “I came home then and I was asking a few lads, and they said nothing had happened. Here we are now, five months later this is the progeny of a goat out of a Cheviot (a breed of small sheep) ewe.”

The geep, who doesn’t have a name yet, was born about a week ago and seems to be perfectly healthy. Murphy told RTÉ News, that his farm’s new addition is “absolutely thriving,” and that, “He’s running around a lot quicker than the other lambs which were born.” He also noted that his mother’s love is unwavering despite his odd appearance, “The ewe has taken to him like he’s just another lamb. There’s no difference in how he’s been reared.”

Brazilian Man to Marry Pet Goat in Devil’s Curch

Aparecido Castaldo, a retired stone cutter from Jundiai, Brazil has decided to marry his beloved Carmella, a goat. Because no Christian minister would agree to perform the marriage ceremony, the two will be wed by a known satanic leader, in the Church of the Devil.

People have married their pets in the past, although in most cases the marriage ceremony was just a symbolic one performed by family or friends. However, 74-year old Aparecido Castaldo, a widower and father-of-seven, apparently wanted to be united with his goat Carmela in a church, by an evangelical minister. Unfortunately, none of the churches he contacted with his unusual request wanted to perform the ceremony, so Aparecido eventually contacted Toninho do Diabo (Tom the Devil), an old friend who just happens to be one of the most famous satanists in Brazil. The wedding is scheduled to take place at midnight, on October 13, at the Devil’s Church, in Sao Paolo. ”Only our church accepted this love between man and animal because we have no prejudice,” Toninho said.

Goat Snarls Traffic On New Jersey’s Pulaski Skyway

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) – A renegade goat and an auto accident snarled traffic on the Pulaski Skyway in northern New Jersey during the morning rush Tuesday.
The small, chocolate brown female with curved horns eluded five Jersey City police officers for more than 90 minutes by jumping back and forth over a central divider along the Pulaski Skyway, alternately disrupting traffic along both east and west-bound lanes, according to city spokesman Stan Eason.
“The goat kept jumping over the divider and on top of cars,” Jersey City Police Capt. Edgar Martinez told 1010 WINS. “It was cornered and captured with a rope and we were able to walk it to the vehicle where it was taken out of the Skyway.”
Traffic was snarled from 7:10 a.m. until almost 9 a.m. along the elevated roadway, which traverses the Passaic and Hackensack Rivers between Newark and Jersey City and carries thousands of vehicles daily to the Holland Tunnel and into New York.
Four vehicles, whose drivers were attempting to avoid the zigzagging goat, were involved in a minor accident, police said. There were no injuries.
Officials are still trying to determine where the goat came from. One of the goat’s ears is tagged with a U.S. Department of Agriculture tag, indicating the animal likely escaped a truck headed to a slaughterhouse, Eason said. If no company claims the animal, it will be moved to a rural animal welfare facility that can accommodate livestock.
“If it can survive running around the Pulaski Skyway for two hours, and then winds up in a slaughterhouse, it’s kind of sad,” Eason said. “But if someone claims her, she is private property, so there’s not much we can do.”

Gary the goat's Sydney flower-eating crime dismissed

Comedian Jimbo Bazoobi, real name James Dezarnaulds, had been ordered to pay the A$440 (£293; $464) penalty for damaging vegetation last August.

Police had argued that Mr Dezarnaulds acted recklessly in allowing the hungry goat, Gary, to approach the flower bed.

But the magistrate said there was no evidence he had put Gary to the deed.

Magistrate Carolyn Barkell said Mr Dezarnaulds had no control over what the animal might eat, and was unaware of his preference for flowers over grass.

She added that the fine should never had been issued.

"Gary the Goat taught the... cops a valuable lesson... don't bite off more than you can chew," Mr Dezarnaulds said after the verdict.

Gary was not called to give evidence and waited outside the court, surrounded by reporters.

Hero pig dives into water to save goat from drowning

The sprightly piglet leapt into action after it spotted the helpless young buck struggling to make it to dry land.

Letting out a loud shriek, the distressed animal appeared to have trapped one of its hooves after wandering into the water at a children's zoo.

However help was quickly at hand as the brave pig jumped into the water before paddling over to the goat and pushing it to safety.

The clip has been uploaded onto video-sharing website YouTube where it has racked up over 200,000 hits in just two days, receiving thousands of 'likes'.

Borrowing a phrase from 1995 animal comedy-drama film Babe, one user simply wrote: 'That'll do pig..'

While another added: 'This is a superhero pig... SPIDER PIG!!!'

However other users condemned the amateur cameraman for not doing more to help the beached goat.

'This pig is more heroic than any of the humans there,' wrote one.

The clip finishes showing the cute duo grazing next to each other on the safety of dry land.
