EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. -- A Colorado family is searching for answers after finding their horses carved up and left to die.
"I just started to cry," Glenda Schneider told FOX31 News.
Schneider discovered two of her horses had been mutilated, with their throats slit and their chests cut open. Their genitals, tongues and eyes had been removed.
Yet, there was no blood, no footprints, and no witnesses to the crime.
"You wonder what happened," Schneider said. "What took place? What did it?"
The Schneider‘s filed a report with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department and they contacted paranormal investigator Chuck Zukowski.
Zukowski examined the horses and determined the horses died from unknown causes, and said there was plenty of evidence indicating the animals were mutilated.
"The straight cuts, the open rib cage, the flesh taken off. Those are red flags," Zukowski said. He believes UFO’s could be to blame.
The Schneider’s are not alone. Paranormal investigators say there have been 8 animal mutilation cases in Colorado in just the past year.
Hundreds of animal mutilation cases across the country have been documented since 1967.
But the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department disagrees with Zukowski's assertion.
They believe the horses were killed by predators, though they admit investigators weren’t able to examine the horses as closely as they would like to because the animals were so badly decomposed.
Still, the Schneider’s insist they know what predator attacks look like, and what happened to their horses is anything but.
They fear whatever killed their horses could come back, and it has shattered the peace on their quiet ranch.

Headless Goat Found in NW Atlanta Neighborhood

ATLANTA - Atlanta police said Wednesday that they are investigating a series of animal mutilation cases in one neighborhood. A headless goat was discovered by residents near an elementary school.
The mutilated animals have been found at the intersection of Fairburn Road and Adkins Place in northwest Atlanta. The area is located right next to Townes Elementary School and Harper Archer Middle School, providing a gruesome walk for students and parents.
"I think it might be some kind of gang thing and they want this turf and they are trying to send a message," said neighbor Steve Durden.
Residents in area said various mutilated animals have been dumped in the road, including chickens, hens, roosters and now a goat.
Neighbor Aleisha Adams said she thought it was some sort of religious ritual. "It's very disturbing," Adams said.
The students at the nearby schools have to cross the intersection where the carcasses have been dumped.
"That would put fear in the kids' heart, in the mind," said neighbor Harvey Hood. "Next it will be a dead body out there with its head cut off."
Police said they suspect the mutilations are some sort of ritual and now they are trying to determine why the animals are decapitated and left in the same spot.

Tails stolen from Montana horses
THREE FORKS, Mont. - Authorities in Montana said at least two horse owners have called police to report the theft of hair from their animals. The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office said Sandy O'Rourke of Three Forks called Oct. 17 and reported someone had taken the tails off two of her horses and cut part of the mane from a third, The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reported Thursday. The theft came a month after Bob and Connie Riley of Dillon reported the theft of the hair from their horse's tail, investigators said. The horse owners said their animals were not injured, but they are inconvenienced as they rely on their tails to swat at flies. "It takes about four to five years for the tail to grow back," Bob Riley said.

Pueblo Esther is a small community to the south of Rosario in the Province of Santa Fe, which has accustomed us to news stories concerning the UFO phenomenon.
Several persons claim having seen lights in the fields, ad the locality indeed boasts a significant case history.
On this occasion, the news involves the appearance of a mutilated animal, specifically a young horse, found with the typical inscision to its jaw, total extraction of the eyeball and excision of the ear canal and the tongue, leaving the hyoid bones expones.
The case was reported by Fernando Schienke, who found the horse in a field near his home. Astonished by the injuries to the specimen, he tried to find information about them.
The animal was found on October 17, 2010 and we are still waiting for more details from the witness. In the meantime, we are disclosing a series of details on the investigation. A series of photos will show the aspects to be kept in mind when investigating mutilation cases.
We can quickly observe that the wound presents a net incision with tissue dehydration and in some parts, removal of hair down to the skin along the cut. The type of incision can be clearly made out in a magnified photo. There is neither tearing nor remnants of tissue on the bone, which turns out to be one of the differentiating factors.
The presence of flies: this factor is very interesting, since many pathologists argue that the loss of soft tissue is due to phagocytosis by fly larvae. These photos show how flies begin to work on the animal’s carcass. No colonies of bacteria are visible, no fly larvae. This indicates the insects’ first contact with the carcass. However, the wounds are as latent as the incisions.
Over years of investigation we have been able to establish some basic patterns, the start of action by flies, the carrion animals that appear first, such as the wild boar, as well as some birds. However, all of them appear some 72 hours after an animal presenting these injuries has been found.
Birds tend to make their mark through feces on the back of the animal. We are expecting more details on the case with a follow-up of the area. This incident is a test case for Vision Ovni, as the town of Pueblo Esther is an area of multiple sightings, and a very important item of information for research as a whole.

Owners may be nearing answers to cow mutilation mystery

Kathy Cooper pets Tootsie Wednesday as she recalls the numerous cattle mutilations and killings that have occurred on her South Hall farm. The Coopers have lost 20 cows on their farm over the past year.
John and Kathy Cooper feel they are getting closer to solving the mystery behind the cattle mutilations at their South Hall Farm.
In September, they discovered one of their cows dead in the pasture with its udders completely removed. It was the 20th cow they had found dead or mutilated in a year's time.
A recent article in The Times about the Coopers' situation lead to more stories on Atlanta TV stations and even CNN and Coast to Coast radio.
The exposure over the last month has brought a number of experts to visit their 200-plus acres in Chestnut Mountain.
"It went nationwide and because of that we've gotten ideas of what to do,"
Kathy Cooper said. "With the research scientists and investigators and everything, we would just sit around for hours and talk about the details."
In the last month, the Coopers have gotten a dog to help alert them of people on the property, have offered an award for any information leading to the culprit behind the mutilations and are better prepared to gather clues in case of any future incidents.
A research scientist said if another cow is mutilated, a veterinarian should be called to do an on-site necropsy.
"He said the critical thing is to get a vet to agree to come on site so you don't lose any time," Cooper said.
"Your evidence a lot of times disappears over time."
Cooper also hopes to get more clues from tests being performed on the cow killed last month. The University of Georgia Veterinary School determined that one of the Cooper's other cows had been poisoned.
"This one I think they are going to spend some more time with the tissue samples and the blood samples," Cooper said.
Cooper said an investigator at the Hall County Sheriff's Office is taking calls for any leads to who could be behind the cattle mutilations.
"He has had a lot of phone calls, but most of it has to do with extraterrestrial theories," Cooper said. "Hall County has put a lot of effort into this and really spent a lot of time on it. I think he thinks we're getting
closer to making some sense of it."
Cooper said supernatural causes are often blamed for cattle mutilation cases.
"They believe it's got to be something other than humans," Cooper said.
Cattle mutilations have been reported across the country with little explanation despite extensive studies. The cows are discovered with their udders or genitals cleanly removed with a nearly surgical precision. The
mutilations are often attributed to a variety of causes, including everything from extraterrestrials and cults to natural predators and decomposition.
Cooper said it is hard for her to image that something other than a person is doing this to her cows.
"You really can't rule that out because you don't have proof one way or another," Cooper said. "It's hard for me to understand it, I can't believe it."

Neighbors Wake to Headless Animals

A gruesome Halloween mystery came to a Miami neighborhood Thursday morning when residents awoke to find dozens of dead, headless animals dumped down their street. About a dozen goats, cats and different types of birds were laid out on nearly two blocks between 16th Terrace and 15th Terrace on 34th Avenue in Miami, leaving residents scared at what might be next as Halloween approaches.
"Nothing had a head," said Marioly Perez, who was awakened by screeching tires as a car peeled out down the street. "I have never seen anything like this. It's scary." Miami Police believe the dead animals might have been part of a religious ritual like a Santeria, but those don't usually involve cats. There was also a "very large" animal that no one could identify, residents said.
It all started when something went bump in the night outside. A loud boom woke residents and the sounds of a fast-moving car caused them to come outside.When they walked out, the scene resembled something from a nightmare - a trail of headless animals with body parts strewn everywhere. Perez said the smell was suffocating and that it seemed like the animals had been dead for some time.
"We all love animals here. This is very, very depressing. You don't know what kind of crazy people are around your neighborhood," resident Josefine Pita said. "It's very, very scary because you don't know if they are going to steal your animal."
The City's Sanitation Department cleared away the animal carcasses, while the Fire Department hosed down the Street. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Miami Police Department or call Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
