REPORTED sightings of the black beast of Worcestershire have led to increased numbers of visitors to the area.
Hotel and bed and breakfast managers have told Destination Worcestershire that people are visiting the county specifically on the trail of the beast.
Tourism bosses are now considering developing specific activities, including trails and a dedicated website for people wanting to investigate the beast’s existence.
They are also considering visiting Loch Ness in Scotland to learn more about cashing in on mysterious creatures.
A spokesman for Destination Worcestershire said: “The county is one of the UK’s top hot spots for mystery sightings – in 2006, a survey compiled by the British Big Cats Society listed nearly 50 sightings in the area in a single year alone.
“The county is considering whether there are ways to develop specific activities for people wanting to investigate the beasts of Worcestershire.”
Last month, your Worcester News reported a sighting of a large black cat at Grove Farm, St John’s, Worcester.
Two men were walking their dogs when something in the undergrowth caught their eye. As they went over to investigate a large cat leapt up and disappeared into the undergrowth.
After the sighting, members of national research group Big Cats in Britain visited Worcester to look for evidence of a big cat.
Although they could not find any prints or fur, experts believe there could be several in the area.
Over the years people have also reported sightings near Bromyard, Ledbury and Droitwich and farmers believe lambs have been killed by mysterious beasts.
