COPS TAKING WOUNDED ANIMALS TO THE GUN RANGE AND SHOOTING THEM

MERCED, CALIFORNIA – Merced Police are reportedly taking injured animals out to the shooting range and shooting them according to a report filed by CBS13. Animal rights activists are questioning whether this is the most humane solution to put down pets who are suffering from injuries.

According to CBSAccording to a California penal code, it’s an officer’s discretion, saying in part: “…any officer… may, with the approval of his or her immediate superior, humanely destroy any abandoned animal in the field in any case where the animal is too severely injured to move or where a veterinarian is not available and it would be more humane to dispose of the animal. “No one wants to see an animal lose its life, but if death is inevitable, and it’s just being prolonged,” said Sacramento County Sgt. Jason Ramos.

Building evacuated over fake spider

A Swiss police expert in dangerous animals gave workers a lecture after they evacuated the building because of a plastic spider.

Police scrambled after a panicked report that a giant bird eating spider had been spotted on the boss's table at the firm in Chur.

But when cops - including the dangerous animal expert - arrived they quickly realised the spider was a fake.

Officers told staff at the firm that they would not be fined for wasting police time as the call had been genuine in it's intent.

But they made them sit through a 20-minute lecture on how to tell the difference between real spiders and plastic toys.

Police officers escort family of ducks across busy motorway

The unusual incident was captured on camera in Texas as the group of ducks struggled to cross the road as a series of cars whizzed past them.

However, help was on hand for the ducks when a team of police officers pulled over to give the brave quacking birds some support.

The group eventually made it across the great divide safe and sound, after the ducklings followed their mother's lead one behind the other.

The police men managed to halt the oncoming traffic, with one enthusiastic officer even attempting to scoop up one slow coach in his arms after its brothers and sisters raced ahead. 

A clip of the incident was uploaded on to video-sharing website YouTube where it has attracted hundreds of hits.

Such incidents are not uncommon in the US, it seems after cops in Florida were filmed doing a similar good deed last year.

Police broke into car to save toy dog

Two police officers smashed a car window to save a dog they feared was overheating - to find it was only a cuddly toy.

The PCs became concerned about the "sleeping" animal after being alerted by a member of the public.

When it would not be roused, they smashed the window of the Mercedes coupe fearing it would be harmed in the 18C temperatures.

It was only when they reached inside to rescue the pooch that they realised it was merely a stuffed cuddly toy worth £4.50.

Owner Gordon Williams, 80, has now told how he returned to his car to find the backseat covered in broken glass and an official note, reading: "Smashed your window re concern for animal on rear seat."

The police force has agreed to pay to the damage to allow the retired mining engineer to replace his window.

Mr Williams, from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, told The Sun: "I guess they felt like idiots."

Nottinghamshire Police said: "The call was made in good faith by a passer-by.

"In this case officers believed a dog could be suffering due to the heat of the day and its life was potentially at risk, so felt there was no other option but to enter the vehicle.

"This is a perfect example of why drivers need to think about what they leave on view in their car, both in terms of other people's perception of the objects and in a bid to deter opportunist thieves."

Kitten causes havoc in police chase

A kitten caused havoc in Austria after going on the run from police, who had to dismantle a force car to rescue her. Police and firefighters were called to a Vienna suburb after residents heard desperate meowing and a night-long search ensued.

When the cat was discovered under the bonnet of a car, she sprang away from police and took refuge behind several cars until seemingly disappearing - until her meowing started again. The wayward animal's calls for help were traced to a police car.

It took half-an-hour's hard work boosting the car up on a jack before the cat was released from a small space inside the vehicle's floor panel.
