Turtles are famed for swimming thousands of miles to return to the beach where they hatched to lay their eggs.But one sick turtle had a different homing instinct – he took himself to a hospital for injured reptiles.
Staff spotted the 35kg (77lb) loggerhead turtle in the sea near the centre in Marathon, Florida, and decided to investigate after it hung around for a few hours.
'This is the first time a turtle has ever showed up at our doorstep waiting to be admitted,' said hospital worker Ryan Butts, who found the creature. 'He has a bacterial infection. He's very thin and very weak. He needs TLC.'
