Did Burlington Man Get 'Champ' Footage Last Weekend?

YouTube Video Creates Stir

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- The legend of Champ, the famed Lake Monster believed to be roaming the depths of Lake Champlain for centuries, has reared its slimy head once again, this time in the form of a YouTube video apparently taped by a Burlington man.

The video features almost two minutes of what appears to be a brontosaurus-like sea monster loafing off the shores of Oakledge Park near Burlington.

According to the YouTube page hosting the video, it was shot Sunday just after sunrise -- at about 5:30 a.m. -- according to YouTube poster "mookiebone," who the Burlington Free Press has identified as Eric Olsen, 37, a Web site developer and musician in Burlington.

In the YouTube post, "mookiebone" said he shot the video with his cell phone. "It's definitely not normal," the YouTube post says of the video, later asking, "was anyone else out and about around Oakledge on Sunday just after sunrise?"

Whatever it is that "mookiebone" shot in the water of Lake Champlain, it appeared to raise what looked like a head above water several times, often surfacing what could be described as a torso out of the water before gently dipping below the surface.

WPTZ.com and NewsChannel 5 are currently attempting to contact Olsen and will provide more information on this story as it becomes available.
