Banana bait snags runaway monkey

By New Zealand correspondent Kerri Ritchie

A monkey in New Zealand which has been on the run for six days has been recaptured.

Minty, a South American capuchin monkey, made a daring escape from a wildlife park in Christchurch.

She is brown and about the size of a domestic cat.

She took off through an electric fence on Saturday and her life on the run has been big news in New Zealand.

But Minty was caught this afternoon in a trap baited with a banana.

Her love of food was also her undoing when she escaped last year.

Staff at the wildlife park say Minty is hungry and cold but otherwise fine.

She will have a health check before she is put back in her enclosure.
