Video: Huge alligator nearly bites scientist’s arm off

A video showing the terrifying moment an alligator nearly ripped off a man’s arm has surfaced on the Web.

Aquarium scientist Fred Boyce can breathe a sigh of relief after he almost lost a limb during the incident which took place on a highway in North Carolina.
In the shocking footage Mr Boyce, who works at is seen attempting to coax the eight-ft creature gently out of a ditch with his bare hands. But despite his best efforts, the gator becomes hostile, snapping back at him violently and trying to bite his arm.

The man- a specialist in amphibians and reptiles at Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium - falls over and kicks out at the fearsome creature but luckily manages to escape the animal’s clutches.

Fellow colleague Robbie Norville, who witnessed the ordeal, told WCTI: “That gator was in a position of advantage there in that ditch. We had to coax him, get him to move somewhere flat where we could have the advantage.

“We were able to tie him up, secure his jaw closed. From there, it all went well.”

Mr Boyce is apparently no stranger to reptiles and has posted many pictures of himself on Facebook posing with dangerous animals.

The scientist, who is recovering in hospital from his injuries, said: “It is not a good example of my best work.”
