A mystery globe-trotting cat called Grace has been found living as a stray in a suburban Home County.
The cosmopolitan kitty was previously called Annie and is now, like the orphan of the same name, looking to reverse her fortunes and find a loving home.
Animal welfare workers were dumbfounded when they began looking into the animal’s past in the hope of reuniting her with her owners.
A spokesman for Cats Protection said: 'She was taken in by a resident who only recently decided to take her along to the adoption centre.
'It was then that her incredible journey came to light.
'The woman who had been looking after Grace, having first assumed she had been living in her shed, decided to take the cat to the centre on August 10.
'While there, a quick check of Grace’s microchip revealed her globe-trotting credentials.'
The woman regularly spotted the cat over a period of two years in the area of her home, in Frimley, Surrey.
Convinced she must be a stray, she took her in before bringing her to the experts.
They scanned her and found she had been microchipped in the past but not anywhere near their adoption centre in Haslemere, Surrey - nor even in the UK.
Instead she had been logged by vets in the United Arab Emirates, more than 3,500 miles away.
