A pensioner was left shocked when a deer crashed through her window and bounded around her house.
Jane Eyre (really her name) was baking shortbread in her kitchen when the deer smashed through the front window of her home in Lansdown, Bath, and ran helplessly around the house looking for a way out.
Mrs Eyre, 87, said the deer then bounded out the same way it came in leaving the room covered in glass and wrecking a table.
She said the animal appeared to be largely unhurt by the incident on May 12 but did have blood over it from where the glass had cut it.
'I heard a huge noise as the window broke,' Mrs Eyre told the Bath Chronicle.
'I was utterly astonished - I thought I was having a dream, or actually a nightmare, it was thrashing around thinking it could get out.
'Had I not been in the house, I don't like to think what would have happened.'
Mrs Eyre says she has no idea where the animal came from as she lives in a cul-de-sac and her home backs on to a high wall.
She rang her insurance firm to report the £122 damage. 'They said "oh dear", then they said "oh, that's not the best thing to say, is it?",' she said.
A neighbour phoned the RSPCA but the animal had disappeared.
