A big cat has been spotted prowling the Derbyshire countryside by 83-year-old pensioner Sheila Noble.
Ms Noble said she first saw the big black cat in her garden on New Year’s Day, when she watched it jump over an eight-foot-tall gate.
She told the Derby Telegraph: ‘It was about 18 inches from the floor to the top of its head and it had the biggest yellow eyes I have ever seen.
‘We have a lot of cats in this area but this was about four times bigger.’
She said she spotted the big cat again the next day, and has vowed to take a photograph if she sees the creature again.
Last week a driver made a similar sighting seven miles away, spotting the creature when driving down a country road.
50-year-old Kim Williams saw something dart out of a hedge, and said: ‘I thought at first it was a big fox but then I noticed it was plain black.
‘It ran straight across the road and into a field.’
Meanwhile a man spotted a giant paw print in the mud while walking his dog.
He described the print as being five inches wide, and said: ‘It was definitely too big to be a dog's paw.’
The news comes as figures, released under the Freedom of Information Act, reveal four big cat sightings were reported to Derbyshire police last year.
