World’s oldest cat Cola prepares to celebrate 28th birthday (that’s 140 in cat years)

A cat who remembers Margaret Thatcher as prime minister looks set to take the crown as the world’s oldest feline as she prepares to celebrate her 28th birthday.

The long life of Cola, whose age equates to 140 in cat years, is down to ‘a lot of love and attention and just being looked after’, says owner Mary Goldsmith, who, at 66, is just a slip of a girl in comparison.

If her age is verified, Cola will take the official Guinness World Records title of the oldest living cat from 23-year-old Pinky – who was born on 31 October 1989 and lives with her owner, Linda Anno in Hoyt, Kansas, USA.

Cola, from Orpington in Kent, was born in 1985, according to Ms Goldsmith, which would make her the oldest cat ever.

It is thought that 27-year-old Wadsworth, a cat from Bedfordshire, who celebrated his last birthday in March, is the next oldest cat in Britain, although he has yet to have the official record to his name.
