Dad dives in stream to escape wasps

Published Date: 06 September 2009

A Lancashire dad told today how he was stung at least 30 times as his family were attacked by a swarm of wasps.

Father-of-two Martin O'Looney, 36, was enjoying a country walk with his family when he accidentally stepped on a wasps nest.

His wife Louise, 35, was stung a dozen times and their two daughters, aged nine and seven, were stung six times each as they walked through Halsall, near Ormskirk, on Sunday afternoon.

Their pet dogs were also targeted by the swarm.

Martin then drew the swarm away and ran into a nearby stream in Halsall, near Ormskirk, as his wife rang 999.

He said: "There were thousands of wasps all over me covering me in stings. I was in agony.

"I could feel myself becoming weak and dizzy."

He passed out and was taken to hospital for treatment.
