Ancient cephalopod identified

SQUID'S IN: A 500 million-year-old cephalopod fossil shows modern squids have a much older ancestry than previously thought. Nectocaris pteryx was about 5cm long and resembled a cuttlefish with two long, grasping tentacles. Scientists have analysed 91 new Nectocaris fossils and Yoho National Park in British Columbia, Canada, and concluded it was a primitive cephalopod.
