UK's biggest snake receives health check-up at Chester Zoo


A team of vets and zookeepers at Chester Zoo lined up to carry the gigantic 23ft python to her annual health check on Wednesday morning.

The reticulated python - the longest species of snake in the world- had its eyes covered by staff to keep her calm as she was checked over during the delicate operation.

Dr Eric Stohr from Cardiff Metropolitan University was also on hand to perform ultrasound scans on the 90kg snake’s heart.

'They are native to south-east Asia, a region in which Chester Zoo is involved in several key conservation projects looking to save animal and plant species from extinction,' explained a Chester Zoo spokesman.
