A pony had to be separated from a flock of sheep after becoming so protective of a lamb that he even chased its mother away, farm workers said today.
Kes the palomino pony decided to "adopt" the baby lamb at Fentongollan Farm near Truro, Cornwall, and protect it against anything in the field, including other sheep.
Julie Rickeard, of Fentongollan Plants, said they had to move him to another field to reunite the lamb with its mother.
She said: "I've never seen anything like it.
"Kes decided that he was the man and he was going to look after it.
"He chased all the other sheep off, including mum, and they ended up having to put Kes in another field."
