POWELL, Wyo. (AP) - Powell police say a big lizard spotted at a high school stadium last week remains at large somewhere in the northern Wyoming city.
Someone called police on Aug. 24 to report a roughly three-foot-long lizard at the stadium near the old Powell High School. The officers who responded to the call found the reptile sunning itself on the bleachers, but it was too quick and eluded capture.
Det. Dave Brown says the creature looked like a monitor lizard, and he suspects it either escaped from its owner or was released after it grew too big.
In the past year, the department has dealt with porcupines, snakes, a badger and a treed mountain lion, but Brown says this was the first time someone called to request that they apprehend a lizard.
