A Hunter's Bigfoot Tale

By Chris Capps 5/12/10

Those who have read tales of the notoriously elusive creature Bigfoot often express frustration at the creature's lack of interest in human affairs, and its ability to avoid human contact, which is almost as unexplainable as its very existence. So when one hunter from Russia claims he not only came face to face with the creature, but actually helped to save it from drowning, it's all the more amazing.

The claim comes in the form of a letter penned by a hunter living in the Shoria Mountains in Siberia. Those familiar with this territory of Siberia will know that the Shoria Mountains and the greater wild of Siberia in general are two of the most hauntingly mysterious places on Earth. Both have a reputation for unexplainable events transpiring there, and both are deeply rooted in the folklore of Russia. Sightings of the legendary creatures that appear not quite human and yet not quite animal are prolific throughout the Siberian wilderness. Those in the region call the creature Yeti. The Indians call it the Rakshasa. In Indonesia the creature is known as Sedapa. In the southern regions it is known as the Skunk Ape. And yet all of these various names can be attributed to one unknown and strange creature that haunts the wilderness just beyond the settlements of humans. It appears to be like a man, but more primitive and apelike with massive feet that leave deep heavy footprints in its wake. It is this creature that is described in the account written to the Siberian authorities detailing an encounter so shocking that it is almost guaranteed to be lost in the sands of time without verification unless proper evidence is gathered from the area.

The hunter claims that he was residing near the village of Kichi, away from modern amenities such as electricity or running water when suddenly they heard a strange scream coming from the Kabirza river nearby. As the experienced woodsmen went to investigate, they spotted a strange creature struggling to keep its head above the water after falling through the ice. They managed, with the strength of three men to pull the creature to shore and it immediately ran off into the woods after being rescued. All three of the men involved in the sighting signed the letter stating it was the truth under penalty of perjury. But if the creature they claim to have rescued does indeed live in the region around Shoria, no evidence has been gathered proving its existence. Yet the stories still circulate. Are these hunters actually seeing something? Or are they simply spinning tall tales?

Evidence has been gathered of the creature in the form of hair samples that cannot be identified as any known species, castings of massive footprints have been collected, and blurry photographic evidence has been put forward. Yet still no living or dead Bigfoot have been discovered. Recently it was suggested that the reason no Bigfoot have been discovered is because they bury their dead, a behavior seen even in some ape species.

  1. "Under penalty of perjury"? What legal proceeding came from this incident?

The whole thing sounds like a made up story. It's written to sound like there's proof (like the misuse of legal terms), but I bet the hunter will never be found.
