Pamlico seeks to maintain ban on bear hunting with dogs

BAYBORO — Pamlico County commissioners are expected to approve a request Monday that would seek to retain a local ban on hunting bear with dogs.

In 1983, the N.C. General Assembly, at Pamlico County’s request, enacted a local law that prevents that type of hunting in the county.

Monday’s request was prompted by upcoming public hearings on proposed rules changes by the state Wildlife Resources Commission that includes a list of counties where there is a planned ban on hunting bear with dogs.
