Baby deer will lose injured limb

A baby fallow deer which was found trapped in a fence will have to have a leg removed, rescuers said.

It was found on Monday at Furners Green in East Sussex with a leg caught up in a strand of electric fencing. The wire had cut off the animal's blood supply.

Trevor Weeks from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue said the deer, which was less than a week old, would have to have its leg removed.

He said it should recover and would be released into a domesticated herd.

Only three days before, another baby deer was rescued after being found abandoned near Hayward's Heath.

The roe deer was dehydrated and taken to an animal hospital after emergency treatment from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service.
