Amazing rescue of hedgehog stuck in wall

Friday, October 9, 2009

Animal rescuers were called out to help a hapless hedgehog which became wedged in a hole in a garden wall, the RSPCA said today.

The adult hedgehog was spotted by a homeowner in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.

It was halfway through the hole with its front legs out one side and his back legs out the other. The RSPCA was called out to save the animal.

Inspector Jason Finch attended and spent an hour chipping away at the wall with a hammer and chisel to remove the hedgehog, which was uninjured.

"This was quite an unusual rescue," said Mr Finch. "The hedgehog had just climbed through the hole and got stuck fast.

"We think he may have been there overnight so it was lucky he was seen and escaped injury."
