Can you rename William, the F-reg horse?

Meet Lancashire Police's newest recruit.

This hungry horse is the latest member of staff to join the force's Mounted Branch.

Five-year-old William, who has just 10 weeks of training behind him, is settling into the stables at Mounted Branch off Lindle Lane in Hutton, with 18 other horsey colleagues.

But he needs help from Lancashire Evening Post readers to decide his new name.

All equine members of the force have to be given a name of a Lancashire place, corresponding with a registration letter they are given.

PC Dave Palmer-Davies, his trainer, explained: "We give our horses names like cars are given registration numbers – it lets us know how old he is.

"All the horses who join this year will have names beginning with F, such as Freckleton or Fulwood. He is an F-reg!

"He loves his food. He is a very quiet but very loving horse who likes people and loves being petted.

To suggest his new name e-mail: stef.hall@lep.co.uk.

The winner will get to meet him and have a tour of his stables. The closing date is October 30.
