Elephants play football in Nepal

Pelé the Elephant led the charge as his football team gave a performance to remember in Nepal yesterday.

Elephant soccer wowed the crowds at the Sauraha National Park as part of Nepal’s Elephant Festival.

The festival is an annual event aimed at raising awareness for wildlife conservation. Other games over the period included an elephant race and an elephant beauty contest.

Yesterday saw the the final day of the event at Sauraha in Chitwan, about 170 km south of Kathmandu.

Teams sponsored by Kist Bank and the Gasuri Shankar Bank fought it out on the pitch, with Kist Bank winning 6-0 and Pelé taking ‘mammoth of the match’.
