"HISS...Get that on camera"

This is what greeted New Bedford animal control officers when they were called to rescue some abandoned pets Tuesday morning. He may look like an alligator, but he's actually a Caiman....which is a member of the Crocodile family:

Emanuel MacielNew Bedford Animal Control says, "This one is about 3 and a half, four feet long. It is very unusual to have him, this big around the area."

The reptile, has several wounds...where someone stabbed it...but officers think he'll recover:

MARK CURTIS, says "This is not the end of the road for this little guy. He'll be transferred to New England Reptile in Taunton, and will be properly cared for there."

The Caiman was found in the abandoned second floor apartment 31 Ashley Street in New Bedford. Abusive neighbors shouted profanities at us saying we didn't belong there. This abandoned pit bull was also found in the apartment:

Manny Maciel says,
"We've had some issues with that ghouse before. About a year ago we took 26 animals from that first floor. It's been an eyesore for us."

Despite signs of abuse, Animal control officers expect both animals to survive. In New Bedford, Mark Curtis ABC 6 News.
